Pitt Memorial Hospital Foundation
The Pitt Memorial Hospital Foundation was established to develop relationships and secure financial resources to support the health and wellness services, program and projects of Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Over the years, the Foundation has helped fund projects such as the creation of the region’s only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the East Carolina Heart Institute.
The Foundation is responsible for forging a relationship with the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust to form the Community Benefits Program that has awarded $10,500,000 over the past 10 years and increased the number of programs funded from six to 89. The funded programs help remove economic and transportation barriers and promote early detection and disease through wellness and prevention education in addition to providing direct healthcare services. Program focuses over the years include diabetes prevention and management, access to care, minority health, senior services, and nutrition and physical activity. In 2005, the Pitt County Memorial Hospital Foundation expanded the grants program throughout the UHS regional hospitals.
The Pitt Memorial Hospital Foundation is currently in the final phase of its campaign to raise money for the construction of a new inner faith chapel scheduled to break ground August of 2009. More than half of the $2.3 million for this project has been raised. The new chapel is designed to serve people of all faiths as a meditative and reflective area where patients, family members and employees can seek solace during trials and rejoice in moments of happiness.
