University
Health Systems hospitals have teams in place to immediately begin
treatment for patients experiencing a stroke. Our community hospitals
also have access to the region's only primary stroke center located
at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Stroke
is the third leading cause of death and the leading cause of
disability in this country. In eastern North Carolina, our rate of
stroke death is two times higher than the nation's average. But
knowing more about stroke can help us lower those rates.
When
you come to our hospital, you can be sure we will do everything we
can to lessen the effects of a stroke. The first step to getting
treatment is knowing the signs and getting help immediately.
