Pediatric Family-Centered Care
Our special Pediatric Rehabilitation Team serves patients from birth to age 18 who require intensive inpatient rehabilitation. Pediatric patients account for about 6 percent of the overall rehabilitation population. Young patients are treated in a separate, eight-bed unit that has been designed, furnished and equipped specifically for children and youth. Programs recognize and build on the importance of play in the child's learning and recovery process.
Pediatric patients include those diagnosed with brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple trauma, orthopedic conditions, amputations, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, failure to thrive and cardiopulmonary conditions.
We provide pediatric patients with diagnostic and treatment services in the Children's Hospital (neonatal and acute care) and the Regional Rehabilitation Center, as well as therapy and clinic services at the Outpatient Rehabilitation Center.
Our approach recognizes that the family is central to a child's ability to succeed. Our team engages the family to make sure that these children regain optimal function for their ages and levels of development. We even provide teachers so pediatric patients are prepared to begin or resume their schooling after treatment. Ultimately, our goal is to reintegrate the patient to family, school and community.
