The national standards deal with some of the most common health
issues that bring people to hospitals. How well a hospital cares
for patients with these medical conditions is a good guide to its
overall success in providing quality care.

Why is patient experience reporting important?
How patients assess their experience is useful information for
anyone making a choice for hospital care. This information is
captured through the national Hospital Consumer Assessment of
Healthcare Providers and Systems, or HCAHPS, survey.
