About Patient Experience Reporting
University Health Systems takes part in public reporting on patients' perception of their care as measured by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or HCAHPS. This survey provides an objective report of how patients feel about the care they receive at a particular hospital during a particular stay.
The federal Agency for Health Care Research and Quality partnered with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to develop the survey.
All hospitals in the United States use the same survey, and all acute-care hospitals report this information. That means that consumers can make "apples-to-apples" comparisons of hospitals on issues that are important to them. The graphs illustrate the results that we get from our patients. You can see the complete list of questions here .
The survey results are compiled on the CMS Web site, www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov; for your convenience, we report these results on our Web site along with the most recent data available for our hospitals. Our reports may be slightly different from what you see on the CMS pages. That is because CMS adjusts its results based on several factors including the survey method used (phone or mail) and patient population variables.
The results reported on our Web site are not adjusted but reflect our patients' exact responses.

How the survey is conducted
Patients are randomly selected to take part in the survey. They are contacted by phone between 48 hours and six weeks after they are discharged. To be eligible for the survey, patients must be at least 18 years old and must have spent at least one night in the hospital. Patients who are hospitalized primarily for mental illness are not called. You can find more information about the survey by clicking here.
